OUR FIRST EGG!

We have had our kids for 7 days and we just got our first egg.  I think it came from Rhoda.  I was so excited, like a kid at christmas.  I didn't expect to find one when I went in this morning, but there was my little gift.  They got some bananas, cheese and apple as a treat.  It was incredibly tasty!!!!!

I'm telling you I love having chickens, could do with the rooseter though, he doesn't do much and doesn't even cock-a-doodle-do!  Which people tell me is a good thing as it can be a bit annoying in the summer.  When we come back to the states I WILL have a couple hens, for sure.

That is a total miracle. I can't even imagine what it must be like to lay a egg. Life is so mysterious. Congratulations on your foray into animal husbandry.

Amitiés,

What do you mean, "back to the States"?

Ll - i am a very good parent to my chickens! They are probably treated better than the have ever been. Life on a farm with a frencman is very different than life with the americans.

Franke - well the hens and cock will live at our friends house, with other loved chickens. Maillot, well we are not sure...we have good friends who would love a cat and they are retired and around all the time and have a great house in the country. Or, she comes home with us. Not sure yet. I just don't think she'd be a happy city cat, she loves to hunt, roam in the woods, be free..just doesn't seem fair to take her out of France just because we love her. We have 9 months to figure that out.

LBR - I wlll never ever forget finding our first egg. I felt like i was 6 and it was christmas morning. I remember being so excited on christmas and looking down into the family room and seeing all the presents and the tree all lit up and the stockings all full, it was such a wonderful feeling as a kid to believe in santa.

The first egg!!! Really, I am so envious. Nothing beats fresh eggs from your own hens!
