Our best new year's day

New Years Day - 2009....a beautiful day in the Midi-Pyrenees.  We decided to go for a nice long ride in the Lot (the department just north of us).  All I can say is if you come to france to have to visit this area.  It was actually the most beautiful ride that we have ever taken.  Every turn was a new amazing view.  The valley we road in/around/above was so beautiful.  The limestone walls (we are x-climbers) were stunning.  We took the camera and took so many pictures, we just had to share them with you.

such a beautiful old house (not habitable)

here is the same house - with the waterfall next to it!

heading UP
a house with the river going through the bottom of it

just another chateau

this was amazing...notice the ancient building built into the rocks

the most beautiful valley (and a hard climb up to take this photo)

me heading up, again

the beautiful St. Cirq-Lapopie

if we move to france (for good), we need to live near amazing limestone

me too

this adorable little donkey that I just had to get a shot of

I love St Cirq-Lapopie ... it was a wood carver's commune/village you know - fab views and great restaurants for steaming wintery bowls of cassoulet.

Lovely photos, Alisa. And if you move near the limestone you'll have to buy some and have Le F carve you a fireplace or two!

Happy New Year!

St Cirq Lapopie is one of "les plus beaux villages de France".
Makes me want to leave Manhattan Beach and go back to France.
I would miss the US too much though.

Have a wonderful new year, with many more awsome miles riding!

I just found your blog through Leesa and Nadege - what a wonderful adventure you're on.

Beautiful photos and I look forward to hearing more about your experiences in that beautiful part of France.

Cheers from Sydney (and sometimes Paris),

I know that area well -- it looks so familiar.

Happy New Year to you too!

Maybe I'll be able to make it to see you during 2009...

Leesa - it's the most beautiful area, not our department (the aveyron) which is also amazing with the gorges and all, but where we live basically touches 4 different regions (aveyron, lot, tarn, tarn-et-garonne) all with very different landscapes...all stunning.

LF - maybe we can find a house right at the base of one of the cliffs and MLF can come over and carve us something! He'd be in heaven around these cliffs.

michelle - when it's sunny and you are in a place like this....life is really good!

nadege - funny because i thought i might miss los angeles, but i don't....don't miss the US at all (only thing I really miss is a clothes dryer). I don't want to think about coming home in September, makes me sad.
