And most certainly not our last.
Last Friday was a holiday here in France and we kept seeing flyers all over for a vide grenier. Vide Grenier means "attic clearance" and in the past it was the chance for grandchildren to make a bit of money out of their Grandparent's horded junk. The junk of course can also include some exciting finds for collectors. These events attract stall holders from the region and prices vary depending on who has the stall. Sometimes stall holders do this for a living and are very aware of what they are selling while some are really clearning their attics out and bargains can certainly be found.
We thought it would be fun to check it out. We didn't spend that much I think all in all about 47 euros. 2 things for me and 2 things for Bruce. Of course, mine were the cheapest. There is another vide grenier on May 10th in Varen not too far from us and we have decided to go but this time we each will have 25 euros. We'll separate and meet up in an hour with our finds.
Here's what we got on Friday.
Bruce bought these cool blocks for printing and is going
to make some cool art assemblage (15 euros for 13)
I found this old chopper and LOVE IT (10 euros)
Bruce really wanted this old "desk" it opens up
and I'm really not sure what he is going to do with it (20 euros)
I got this nifty bottle for storing change (2 euros)

Cool finds ! Some people just enjoy doing these events year long & doing the verb that is called "chiner"- poking your nose around in the goods,looking & discovering.
I'm not into that but, what ever makes you happy do it, me says !
I think that the desk might be a pupil's desk in an old schoolroom.There's a hole that might be for the ink, the the old times when kids learned to write with ink .

Our Monday night drawing class is having a show in my gallery on Friday May 29th at 7pm. It would be great if you could come- there will be a sort of potluck supper afterwards. And please let me know if you would like to model again.
What a bunch of cool stuff!! I LOVE those printing blocks! Great for assemblage or to use in printmaking...what treasures. I sure wish we had some sales and stuff like that happening here in Italy. Haven't found anything like it.

I was so happy when I finally made it to my first "brocante" in Tournan St. Martin! I too found lots of lovely little items including a Limoges cup and saucer with a totally geometric 60s design on it, a super fork with cool floral designs on the front and back of the handle, a lovely salad bowl w/a floral design on the inside and out, and books! Books for 1 euro! Le F found a postcard of the town where he built his house on an ancient quarry site. He was very happy. Oh, yes, I bought a GOLD genuine fake leather backpack for 2 euros!!! I was over the moon.
Your purchases are all very lovely and artistic--no surprise there! I can't wait to see photos of the next trip's finds.
